A ready-made christmas puzzle

This printable has 18 words hidden across, down and diagonally in a 15 × 15 grid, with the word list underneath and an answer page at the back of the PDF. It suits December. Christmas word searches are a staple of the last week of school before the holidays, and a good table activity while the meal is cooking.

Easy for little elves, hard for grown-ups

The Easy, for kids version keeps every festive word running across or down, so a six-year-old can spot SLEIGH and BELLS on their own. The default adds diagonals, and Hard hides words backwards too: try finding MISTLETOE spelled right to left after a mince pie or two. Press New puzzle for a different grid, so every cousin at the table gets their own.

Ideas for using it

  • Print one per guest as a place-setting activity, and time who finishes first.
  • Add your family names or your town to the word list to make a personal puzzle.
  • Swap in carol titles for a harder music-themed version.

Printing tips

Print at 100% on Letter or A4. Red or green paper looks festive but makes the letters harder to read; white paper with a coloured pen for circling works better. For grandparents, the large print word search settings give bigger letters, and the Christmas crossword makes a matching second activity.

Advent, Angel, Bells, Candle, Carols, Chimney, Cookies, Gifts, Holly, Mistletoe, Ornament, Reindeer, Ribbon, Sleigh, Snowman, Stocking, Tinsel, Wreath.

Is this Christmas word search suitable for young children?

Yes. Choose Easy, for kids and every word runs across or down. Most of the words are short and familiar, such as BELLS, GIFTS and ANGEL.

Can I print a different grid for each child?

Yes. Press New puzzle, or change the puzzle number, and the same 18 words are hidden in new places. The answer page always matches the grid you print.

Can I add our family names to the puzzle?

Yes. Add them to the word list before printing. If a long name does not fit, make the grid bigger or remove a word.
