How the mazes are made
Each maze starts as a grid of closed cells. A path wanders from cell to cell at random, knocking down walls as it goes and backing up when it hits a dead end, until every cell has been visited. The result is a “perfect” maze with no loops and no unreachable areas, and the route from start to finish is unique.
Choosing a difficulty
Easy. Wide corridors, few cells: quick to solve and good for crayons.
Medium. The default, a satisfying puzzle for most children.
Hard and very hard. Narrow corridors and hundreds of cells, for older children and adults; use a fine pen.
Ideas
- A maze race: everyone gets the same maze number.
- Laminate and solve with dry-wipe pens for car journeys.
- Make the solution a reward: hand it out after five minutes.
Printing tips
Print at 100% / Actual size. Print page 1 only if you do not want the solution.

Frequently asked questions
How is the difficulty set?
By the corridor width. Wide corridors (15 mm) make a small, easy maze; narrow ones (4 to 6 mm) make a large, hard maze with many more dead ends. Presets cover easy, medium, hard and very hard.
Is there always a way through?
Yes. Every maze is a perfect maze: every square can be reached and there is exactly one route between any two points, including start and finish.
Where do I start and finish?
The entrance is at the top-left corner, marked Start, and the exit at the bottom-right corner, marked Finish.
Is there a solution?
Yes, with Solution page on, page 2 shows the route drawn in red.
Can I make a different maze?
Press New maze or change the maze number. The same number always gives the same maze, which is handy for classes and competitions.
Which size suits young children?
15 mm corridors give a maze of about 12 by 16 squares on Letter or A4, which most five- and six-year-olds can solve with a crayon.
