Pages ready for drawing
Ruling panel borders by hand is slow and fiddly. These templates give you crisp panels with even gutters, so you can spend the time on the drawing. They suit young artists making their first comic, students on a graphic narrative project, and anyone drafting a webcomic on paper.
Layouts
Grids. Six or nine equal panels: the steady rhythm of classic comics.
Tiers. One wide panel, then two, then three.
Splash. A big opening panel above two smaller ones, for a dramatic moment.
Strips. Four-panel newspaper-style strips.
Mixed. Panels of different widths for pace and emphasis.
Tips
- Read the page left to right, top to bottom, and keep speech balloons in reading order.
- Use the big panels for the important moments.
- Plan the page as thumbnails first.
Printing tips
Print at 100% / Actual size on smooth paper or card for inking.

Frequently asked questions
Which panel layouts are included?
A six-panel grid, a nine-panel grid, three tiers of one, two and three panels, a splash panel with two smaller panels below, four-panel strips, and a mixed layout with panels of different widths in the style of many manga pages.
What is a gutter?
The white space between panels. Readers barely notice it, but its width changes the rhythm of a page. The default is 5 mm; use 2 to 3 mm for dense pages and 8 to 12 mm for a more open look.
What paper size do comics use?
US comic books are usually printed at about 6.6 × 10.2 inches, but artists often draw larger and reduce. Letter or A4 is a comfortable working size; choose A3 or Tabloid to draw larger.
Can I draw a four-panel comic strip?
Yes, the strips layout gives three rows of four panels, three strips per page.
Do I ink over the borders?
You can trace them with a ruler and pen, or let characters break out of a panel for effect.
Is there a version with lines for a script?
For script notes under each frame, use the storyboard template.
