A ready-made fall puzzle
This printable has 16 words hidden across, down and diagonally in a 14 × 14 grid, with the word list underneath and an answer page at the back of the PDF. It suits September to November. A fall theme covers the whole season, so the same puzzle works from the first week of school to Thanksgiving.
Three ways to play the season
Easy, for kids places each autumn word across or down, which suits early readers on a rainy afternoon. The default mixes in diagonals, and Hard runs some words backwards, so SCARECROW and CHESTNUT take a little longer to find. The words cover September to November without naming any holiday.
Ideas for using it
- Pair it with a leaf-collecting walk and ask children to find the words they saw outside.
- Print on cream or pale orange paper for a seasonal look.
- Use the hard version, with backwards words, for older students.
Printing tips
Print at 100% on Letter or A4. The grid is 14 squares across, a little smaller than our holiday puzzles, so it is a gentler start for younger solvers. For October, add the Halloween word search; for November, the Thanksgiving word search.
