Boards when you need them
A printed board is handy for teaching, travel, clubs short of equipment, and for writing down positions to study. These boards are drawn as vectors at exact size, so lines stay sharp at any scale.
The boards
Chess. 8 × 8 with algebraic coordinates for recording games and studying positions.
Checkers and draughts. 8 × 8 for checkers and English draughts, 10 × 10 for international draughts.
Go. Lines rather than squares, with star points: 9 × 9, 13 × 13 and 19 × 19.
Uses
- Teaching chess notation with coordinates on the board.
- Diagramming puzzle positions to solve away from a set.
- A spare go board for a club or classroom.
- Coins or buttons as pieces on a printed board for travel.
Printing tips
Print at 100% / Actual size. A 9 × 9 go board on Letter or A4 has lines about 22 mm apart, close to a real board, so standard stones fit. A full-size 19 × 19 board is about 42 cm across, larger than A3; printed on A3 or Tabloid its lines are about 15 mm apart, which suits smaller stones or counters.

Frequently asked questions
Does the chess board have coordinates?
Yes. Files a to h run along the bottom and ranks 1 to 8 up the side, the standard algebraic notation, with a dark square at bottom left so a1 is dark as in a real board.
How big are the squares?
On Letter or A4 the board fills the shorter side of the printable area, so squares are about 2.2 cm. For bigger squares choose Tabloid or A3.
Which go boards are included?
9 × 9 for beginners and quick games, 13 × 13, and the full 19 × 19 board, each with the traditional star points (hoshi).
Can I play draughts on it?
Yes. Use the 8 × 8 checkers board for English draughts and American checkers, or the 10 × 10 board for international draughts.
Can I change the colour of the dark squares?
Yes: grey, brown, green or blue.
How can I make it sturdy?
Print on card, or glue the print onto thick cardboard, and laminate it for repeated use.
