A ready-made Christmas crossword
Twelve festive clues fill this grid, from the reindeer that pull the sleigh to the gingerbread used to build little houses. Every answer crosses at least one other, the Across and Down clues sit beside the grid with each answer’s length in brackets, and page 2 is the answer key. Switch on the word bank for younger solvers.
Around the table in December
Crosswords suit the slow hours of the holidays: the gap between presents and lunch, or the last week of term when concentration is short. Print one per guest as a place-setting activity, or pin a large copy on the fridge and let the whole family fill it in over the week.
- Swap two or three clues for family jokes, such as who always falls asleep after dinner.
- Add the names of guests, pets or the town you live in.
- Use Another layout to make different grids for siblings.

Frequently asked questions
What are the answers?
Reindeer, Sleigh, Stocking, Mistletoe, Wreath, Tinsel, Carols, Snowman, Gingerbread, Ornament, Chimney and Candle. Page 2 of the PDF shows them filled into the grid.
What age is this Christmas crossword for?
The clues suit roughly ages 8 and up, or younger children with the word bank switched on. Gingerbread, at 11 letters, is the longest answer.
Can I add our family's own Christmas clues?
Yes. Add lines such as "Turkey | What Grandma always cooks" to the clue box, and the grid is rebuilt to fit them in, up to 40 words.
Can every child get a different grid?
Yes. Choose Another layout, or change the layout number, and the same 12 clues are rearranged, which stops neighbours copying at a party table.
