Chord diagrams for any song
A chord chart shows where to put your fingers: vertical lines for strings, horizontal lines for frets, and dots where the fingers go. The thick bar at the top is the nut. These sheets give you a full page of empty diagrams to fill in for a songbook, a lesson handout or the chords you are learning this month.
Filling in a box
- Write the chord name on the short line above the box.
- Draw a dot on the string and fret for each finger, and write the finger number inside or below if you like.
- Mark open strings with a small o above the nut and muted strings with an x.
- For chords higher up the neck, write the starting fret number beside the top fret.
Ideas
- A chord library with one page for major, minor and seventh chords.
- A song sheet with just the chords for one song in order.
- Lesson handouts with this week’s two or three new chords.
For six-string guitar, choose the guitar variation or see guitar chord charts. To write melodies, use staff paper.
Printing
Print at 100% / Actual size so the boxes keep their songbook proportions.

Frequently asked questions
How many chord boxes are on a page?
Thirty on Letter (six across, five down) and thirty-six on A4 (six by six).
How big is each box?
Strings are 5 mm apart and frets 5.2 mm apart, so each diagram is 15 mm wide and 26 mm tall, about the size used in printed songbooks.
Which string is on the left?
In standard chord diagrams, the left line is the 4th string (G) and the right line is the 1st string (A), as if you were looking at the fretboard with the ukulele upright facing you.
Does it work for baritone ukulele?
Yes. A baritone ukulele has four strings too. Just remember its tuning (D G B E) gives different chord names for the same shapes.
