A clean grid when you need one

Sometimes the puzzle is fine but the paper is not: the newspaper grid is too small, the app is hard to annotate, or a wrong digit has spread through half the solution. A stack of blank grids solves all of that. Copy the clues in pen, solve in pencil, and start fresh whenever you like.

Ideas for teachers and clubs

  • Rule demonstration: project a single large grid and fill it together with the class.
  • 4 × 4 warm-up: shade one 2 × 2 corner of three boxes to make a mini puzzle for young children.
  • Puzzle swap: each person writes clues in a blank grid for a partner to solve.
  • Speed copying: practise careful copying before a competition.

Grid details

Every grid has thin lines between squares and bold lines around each 3 × 3 box and the outside edge. The squares stay square at every size, so digits written in them look neat. For ready-made puzzles with answers, choose easy or hard sudoku instead.

Printing

Print at 100% / Actual size on Letter or A4. For reusable grids, laminate a one-per-page sheet and use a dry-wipe pen.

Frequently asked questions

What are blank sudoku grids for?

Copying a puzzle from a newspaper, book or app so you can work on paper; starting a puzzle again after a mistake; making your own puzzles; and teaching the rules on a large single grid.

How many grids fit on a page?

One, two, four or six. Six per page gives a compact sheet for copying several puzzles; one per page is best for teaching on a visualiser or projector.

Can I make my own sudoku?

Yes, but a puzzle needs a unique solution. Start from a completed grid and remove numbers in pairs, checking each time that only one answer remains.

Do the grids have answer pages?

No. Answer pages only apply to generated puzzles; blank grids print as puzzle pages only.
