Bingo with your words
Word bingo turns any list into a game: vocabulary words, sight words, names of the guests at a party, things that happen at a meeting, baby-shower gifts. Type the list, choose how many cards per page, and every card comes out with a different arrangement, so there is a real race to the first line.
Classroom ideas
- Vocabulary: call out definitions; students mark the matching word.
- Languages: call in one language, mark in the other.
- Maths facts: put answers like 24, 36 and 42 on the cards and call out the multiplications.
- Reading: sight words for early readers, with the teacher reading each word aloud.
Events
At a baby shower, guests mark the presents as they are opened. At a team meeting, mark common phrases. At a holiday party, use seasonal words and small prizes for each line.
Printing
Print as many pages as you have players: each page gives two or four unique cards. Card stock and counters or dry-wipe pens let you reuse the cards.
Frequently asked questions
How many words do I need?
At least 24 for cards with a free centre square, 25 without. More words make the cards more varied and the game last longer; 30 to 50 works well for a class.
Are all the cards different?
Yes. Each card is a different random selection and order of your words. Change the card set number for a new set; the same number always prints the same set.
How do I call the game?
Write each word on a slip of paper, draw them from a bowl one at a time, and keep the drawn slips to check winners.
Can I use pictures or definitions?
The cards print words, but the caller can read a definition, show a picture or say a translation, and players find the matching word.
