The bullet journal page, ready to print
A5 is the size most bullet journals are made in, and 5 mm dots are what they are usually printed with. This page gives you both, so you can top up a ring planner, test a new layout before committing it to your good notebook, or build an entire journal from home-printed paper. Each page carries 26 × 39 dots inside a 10 mm margin — roomy enough for a monthly calendar, a habit tracker or a page of rapid-logged tasks.
Making a booklet on A4
The most satisfying way to use these pages is as a stitched or stapled booklet:
- In Advanced options, set Pages in the PDF to a multiple of four — 16, 24 or 32 work well.
- Turn on Booklet. The generator imposes the pages two-up on A4 in the right order for folding.
- Print double-sided, flip on short edge, at Actual size.
- Fold the stack in half, crease firmly, and staple or sew through the fold.
The result is an A5 notebook whose dots are exactly 5 mm apart, because the generator places each half-page at true size rather than shrinking a full page. If you print on US Letter instead, choose the Half Letter size so the booklet folds from Letter sheets.
Page numbers are worth turning on for a booklet. They make an index page easy to keep, which is the backbone of the bullet journal method.
Loose inserts and planner refills
For ring or disc planners, print single A5 sheets on A5 paper if your printer accepts it, or print A4 and trim. Choose heavier paper — 100 gsm or more — if you use brush pens, since thin copier paper lets ink bleed through to the next layout.
When printing single A5 sheets, set the paper size in the print dialog to A5 as well; otherwise the driver may centre the page on A4 or scale it. Before a big booklet run, print one sheet and fold it to confirm the page order and duplex setting.
The 4 mm variant suits people who write small and want more rows for daily logs. If you like a narrower format for travel, see the traveler’s notebook dot grid; for written journaling without dots, the A5 lined paper prints and folds the same way.

Frequently asked questions
How many dots are on an A5 dot grid page?
With 10 mm margins an A5 page holds 26 dots across and 39 down. The Half Letter version (5.5 × 8.5 in) with half-inch margins holds 23 × 39.
How do I print A5 pages on A4 paper?
Open Advanced options, set the number of pages, and turn on Booklet. The PDF then places two A5 pages on each side of an A4 sheet in folding order. Print double-sided, flipping on the short edge, fold the stack in half and staple the spine.
How many pages should a booklet have?
Use a multiple of four, because each A4 sheet carries four A5 pages once folded. A 32-page booklet uses 8 sheets of A4; beyond about 48 pages the fold gets bulky, so make several thinner signatures instead.
Is A5 the same as Half Letter?
Close but not identical. A5 is 148 × 210 mm; Half Letter is 139.7 × 215.9 mm (5.5 × 8.5 in), narrower and slightly taller. Pick A5 for A5 binders and journals, and Half Letter for North American junior binders and discbound planners or if you are folding US Letter sheets; the booklet option then prints two pages on each side of a Letter sheet.
Will these pages fit a six-ring A5 planner?
The page is the standard A5 size, so it fits A5 ring planners and disc systems once punched. Turn on Alternate margins for binding to keep dots clear of the holes on both sides of the sheet.
